Our Journey

Letter to Sr Agnes Trail as she left Chavagnes for Edinburgh:

“To the glory of Jesus & Mary & for the love of Jesus & Mary, let us go and save souls in this large (grande) island. Here is the word to my daughter Sr Agnes. Jesus said to his apostles when sending them on Mission: ‘ learn from me that I am gentle and humble of heart’. Give yourself, my daughter, completely to the practice of these two virtues.”

And so our journey spread outside of France. Sr Agnes Trail and Sr Margaret Clapperton following their formation in Chavagnes arrived in Edinburgh with five French sisters to open the first religious house post-Reformation in Scotland. This was the beginning of the movement of the congregation outside of France.

We continue with foundations in England, Wales, Spain, Italy, Ireland, West Canada, Cameroon, Chile and Bolivia.

In 2016 the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Niort fused with the Ursulines of Jesus. At the time of fusion, the Sisters were on mission in France, Cameroon and Madagascar. This added a new country to our places of insertion and missionary activity.

François-Donatien Pécot (1815-1883), Son of Mary Immaculate, is the founder of the congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of Niort.

A disciple of Father Baudouin, he knew how to transmit to the sisters, in his own way and in a different historical context from that of Father Baudouin, all the richness of the spirituality of the Incarnation.

Part of our journey has been and continues to be responding to urgent needs with temporary involvement in countries such as Romania, Rwanda, Guatemala, India, Salvador, Honduras and Zaire.
